Matty Matheson’s “Dead Set on Life” Visits Billeaud’s Meat and Grocery - A Closer Look

When the staff at Billeaud’s Meat and Grocery in Broussard Louisiana excitedly posted the video of Viceland TV network’s “Dead Set on Life” foodie Matty Matheson’s visit to their establishment, I researched the tattooed wild man to see what the big deal was.

For one thing, it’s a miracle Matheson is alive.  After some years of deadly amounts of booze and cocaine, that child had a nasty heart attack at the age of 29. Though no longer wasted in front of the camera, Matheson still acts like a clown while traveling around the world to investigate cuisine and culture for Viceland.

The funniest things in the video are the expressions on the faces of the customers who entered the store while Matheson and his confrere ate Boudin and Cracklin near the entrance. If it wasn’t Matheson’s impressive 300 pounds, or the tattoos crawling up his neck that caused customers to gawk, it was surely his novice attempt to suck Boudin from the casing.

As one would expect, the “Dead Set on Life” video elicited enthusiastic comments from Billeaud’s followers, such as the woman who took immense pride in the fact that a prestigious celebrity visited the tiny town of Broussard instead of the larger “city” of Lafayette: “It is the best and, it’s in Broussard, not Lafayette, Bebe!
